Some general program information:
The part-time evening program in Fort Wayne takes at least 3 full academic years to complete including summer sessions.
The structure of the program is two evenings a week for the entire 3 years of the program.The evenings are Monday and Wednesday – generally from 6:00 p – 8:40 p.
Potential applicants need to be aware of the fact that the Fort Wayne program is limited to the Child Welfare Concentration.If a student is interested in another concentration – he/she must be aware that they will have to travel to another campus (typically IUPUI ) for their concentration year for 3 classes.
You will use the same application as students applying to IUPUI and will mail your application to IUPUI campus.

IU School of Social Work Dean Emeritus Sheldon Siegel receives community leadership award

April 24, 2008 - Dr. Sheldon Siegel, the Dean Emeritus of the IU School of Social Work, will receive the 2008 Community Leadership Award from the Indianapolis Senior Center on Friday. The award, which will be presented at the agency's Senior Prom, is given annually to people with a history of community service, particularly in the area of aging. Dr. Siegel served as dean from 1984-1994 and later returned as interim dean in July of 1999, serving in the capacity until Dean Michael Patchner was hired in 2000.

April 23, 2008 -- Anita Williams, a BSW student on the IU East campus at Richmond has received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award, while Denise Weiss, also a BSW student, has received the Chancellor's Scholard Award. Williams, who works at the Area Nine office, an organization that deals with elderly and disabled, has been accepted into the IU School of Social Work's Master's program. Weiss works at Wernle Children's Home in Richmond.

Grant seen as helping to build university-community partnerships
Jan. 25, 2008 – The Indiana University School of Social Work has been awarded a $75,000 Practicum Partnership Program grant that will serve as an incentive to attract graduate students to the field of geriatrics and gerontology.

The IUSSW Office of Educational Assessment: Now Offering Consultation Services!
In response to growing demand for information and guidance about educational assessment from schools and departments of social work throughout the country, Dr. Barry Cournoyer of the Office of Educational Assessment is pleased to offer consultation services. Individualized consultation naturally complements the Curriculum Analysis and other educational assessment services offered through the Office. Such expanded services are warranted due to the growth of the Office’s educational assessment activities and location to new offices within the School of Social Work.
Dr. Cournoyer, lead developer of The Curriculum Analyzer, a proprietary software program that facilitates comprehensive analysis of social work curricula based upon multiple dimensions, co-author of The Social Work Portfolio: Planning, Documenting, and Assessing Lifelong Learning in a Dynamic Profession (2002, Brooks/Cole-Thomson), popular speaker and workshop leader on the topic of educational assessment in social work, and co-facilitator of the Office of Educational Assessment serves as the primary consultant.
