Work continues on strategic plan

Jan. 17, 2008 –  Coordinators of the Indiana University's School of Social Work's strategic plan hope to get additional comments from faculty, staff and students on a new strategic plan.

E-mails are being sent out asking those who haven’t responded to a Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) survey reviewing the current state of the School of Social Work and the Labor Studies program, to do so. All survey responses will remain anonymous.

People with questions or who can’t access the survey can contact Sandy Stone at 317-274-4438 or at sastone@iupui.edu.

A planning committee revised a draft of the school’s mission and vision statements as well as reviewed the schools values on Jan. 15.

It was the latest step in developing a new strategic plan, a document that will help guide the school for the next three to five years.

The Faculty Senate is expected to then vote on whether to endorse the mission and vision statements and values at its March meeting. Details of the SWOT will be presented at the School Assembly in April for discussion as well as a half-dozen or more strategic goals for the school.

The planning committee will continue to work on the goals over the summer in preparation for reaching a final decision in the fall. That could come at the fall retreat or shortly afterwards.

The school formally began the process of updating its strategic plan last fall, the first such effort in more than seven years ago. Ellen Poffenberger, Vice-Chancellor for Human Resources, and Marilyn Bedford, Consultant, Training and Organization Development with Human Resources, are leading the planning process.

For more information contact Rob Schneider, 317-278-0303 or at robschn@iupui.edu
