Awards & Honors Academic Achievement
Each year, graduating students who rank in the upper 10 percent for their graduating class are recognized by graduating with Highest Distinction for a GPA of 4.0 and High Distinction for graduating in the top 10 percent of their class. Honors are based on the grade point average calculated at the end of the fall semester of the student's final year. Honor students are awarded specially colored "cords" which they wear attached to the shoulder of their graduation gowns during the commencement ceremony. Honors will not be reflected on the student's diploma, but will be recognized in the school's commencement program.
Phi Alpha
The purposes of Phi Alpha National Social Work Honor Society are to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership, those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work. A Master's of Social Work (MSW) committee sets the criteria for excellence.
Alumni Affairs
An active Alumni Association allows graduates continued participation in the improvement of the program and the achievement of the school's progressive goals. An executive committee and officers are selected biennially. The Associate Director for social work is Karen Deery (317) 274-8959.
